Exodus is an international publishing phenomenon--the towering novel of the twentieth century's most dramatic geopolitical event. Leon Uris magnificently portrays the birth of a new nation in the midst of enemies--the beginning of an earthshaking struggle for power. Here is the tale that swept the world with its fury: the story of an American nurse, an Israeli freedom fighter caught up in a glorious, heartbreaking, triumphant era. Here is Exodus - one of the great best-selling novels of all time.
Deathworld 1 by Harry Harrison
1st in a trilogy. Very good science-fiction. A man fighting psychic deadly flora and fauna on planet of death.
Deathworld 2 by Harry Harrison
Second in the trilogy, even better than the 1st.
The Moon's a Balloon by David Niven
Probably the best autobiography I've read.

Ed Mcbain - 47th Precinct (police procedure)
Lee Child - Jack Reacher (ex military police)
Peter O'Donnell - Modesty Blaise (ex crook turned spy)

A favourite book of mine is "Pillars of the Earth" by Ken Follett. It's a very long book (the paperback has 1000+ pages) but is worth every sentence in my opinion. A very different book to my usual choice as its about a families pilgrimage in the 12th century which finally (after much hardship) leads them to Devon to work on the build of a new cathedral.
The Old Man and Mr Smith by Peter Ustinov
An excellent light-hearted comedy. God and the Devil visit earth on a fact-finding mission. A book not to be missed.
Chaos by James Gleick
For those with serious technical/scientific tendancies... This book explores the scientists studying Chaos theory. Very well written, explained and is thought provoking.
Paranormal:
Kelly Armstrong - Bitten, Stolen, Dime Store Magic, etc. etc.
Katie MacAlister - Aisling Grey series
Laurell K. Hamilton - Anita Blake series
Horror:
Clive Barker - Damnation Game (strong stomach required!)
Stephen King - IT
Stephen King - Stand
Fantasy:
Clive Barker - Weaveworld
JRR Tolkein - Lord of the Rings
